OPC (Open Platform Communications) is the interoperability standard for the secure and reliable exchange of data in the industrial automation space. Originally named OLE for Process Control, it is maintained by the OPC Foundation. OPC is based on the OLE (Object Linking and Embedding), Microsoft's proprietary technology.
